Yoga Mom

Having kids has been the biggest blessing of my life. We have 6 beautiful children, my oldest is 13 and my youngest is 6 months. We reside in California and enjoy family trips to the beach, watching our boys play soccer, going to dance recitals for our girls and 365 days of beautiful weather. Being a mom is a full time job and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My secret on how I stay calm and balanced all the time is my Yoga routine. I’ve been doing Yoga for almost 7 years and my daily class is just as important as my daily cup of coffee from Starbucks. Yoga helps me recharge mentally and empowers me to focus more on my kids and less on my own needs. Yoga helps me stay in great physical shape and for the most part, I feel healthy.

6 months ago, we had our son Jimmy and our family is thrilled. However, there were some complicated in labor with Jimmy that I hadn’t experienced with our other children. The labor was more demanding and required more exertion. I was pushing as hard as I could but that labor was not progressing. The doctor felt the best way for child delivery was via forceps delivery. At the time this seemed like a great idea- it was better for Jimmy and we thought better for me. However, after the delivery, the recovery was taking longer than usual and I started suffering from fecal incontinence. I no longer had the ability to control my bowels as the nerves in my internal anal sphincter were damaged from the labor. I wouldn’t wish this experience upon anyone. For the past 6 months I have been wearing adult diapers and trying to go about my day in the most normal way possible. I always feel self conscious of how I smell and I have to wear bulky clothes in my Yoga class to conceal the thick diaper. For the time being, I can use the excuse that I have an infant and I change diapers all the time, which is true. But my FI doesn’t seem to be going away. Soon Jimmy will be potty trained and I’ll have no excuse for smelling all the time.

Last week I started looking into other options. While there are many surgery options, they all look risky and dangerous. My doctor just told me about a product called ProCon2. I am going to try it and continue to update my blog.

That’s all for now.
